All Ohio voters have the opportunity to vote in the next Primary or General Election from the convenience of their own homes by requesting an absentee ballot. You can request your ballot for each individual election beginning on January 1 or 90 days before the date of an election, whichever is earlier.
Your request must be received by your local county board of elections by noon the third day before the election (usually a Saturday). However, you should submit your request as far in advance of the election as possible to ensure there is sufficient time for the board to mail you a ballot and for you to timely return that ballot.
How do I apply to vote absentee?
Option 1: Fill out and print an Online Form then mail or take it to the Board of Elections Office .
Option 2: Print a Request Form to fill out by hand and mail or take to the Board of Elections Office at:
Marion County Board of Elections, 222 West Center Street, Marion OH 43302
Option 3: Come to the Marion County Board of Elections Office during early voting hours, sign a pre-filled absentee form, and vote on a machine.
Option 4: Send Correspondence to the Marion County Board of Elections and request an absentee ballot, giving the following information:
- Your name and voting residence (address).
- The election for which you are requesting a ballot.
- Birth date
- Last 4 digits of your Social Security number, or your full Ohio Drivers License number.
- Your party choice if the election is a primary or that you want to vote an issues-only ballot.
- The mailing address to which you want your ballot sent.
- Your signature.
Early voting begins 28 days before an election. Registered voters can vote in person at the Board of Elections during normal business hours.
Note: The absentee ballot request deadline in the case of medical emergencies is 3 p.m. on election day. To be eligible under this provision, you must be confined in a hospital because of a medical emergency. A close relative may deliver and return your ballot if you so request and state the relative’s name and relationship on the application, or representatives of the board can deliver the ballot.
All voted absentee ballots must be received at the Board of Elections Office by 7:30pm on election day or postmarked on the day before the election in order to be counted. Voters should request an absentee ballot as early as possible in order to meet the return deadline.
