Becoming a Precinct Election Official
Every Election Day, thousands of Ohioans play an important role in our democracy by helping to operate polling places. These Precinct Election Officials (P.E.O.s) work hard to ensure their neighbors can vote with ease on Election Day, while helping to safeguard the process so all Ohioans can have confidence in the results.
To become a Precinct Election Official in Medina County:

You must be a U.S. citizen

You must be at least 18 years of age and registered to vote

You must be a registered voter in Medina County
-
You must not have been convicted of a felony
-
You cannot be running as a candidate for the election in which you are working

Keep in mind:

All P.E.O.s are required to attend a training session scheduled by the Medina County Board of Elections prior to the election.

You can expect to work from 5:30 a.m. (polls are open at 6:30) until 8:30 p.m. (polls close at 7:30).

Election day: We are always looking for Precinct Election Officials!

Contact our office if you are interesting in seasonal employment at the Medina County Board of Elections. Election seasons start roughly 30 days prior to each election.

We are looking for technical help on Election day. Please contact our office to inquire about “Rovers.”

Rover pay is ($190 in Medina County)

We are looking for help setting up polling locations, which is the day before Election ($180 for the day – potentially a 12 hour day). Please contact our office to inquire about “Setup Teams.”

P.E.O. Training
In Medina County, our Precinct Election Officials use electronic poll books instead of paper!
Official P.E.O. Training at the Board of Elections office for the upcoming election is required for all P.E.O.s. The Board of Elections dedicates each training session to P.E.O.s working all of the precincts in that session’s specified polling locations. You will be notified of the date and time of your scheduled session.
The Precinct Election Official Training Manual, a publication of the Ohio Secretary of State is intended to provide the training and knowledge you need to be well prepared in assisting your neighbors at your assigned precinct polling location. Here you will find:
