COME WORK WITH US ON ELECTION DAY!
The Meigs County Board of Elections has always been and continues to be committed to provide the most fair and efficient elections possible for voters in Meigs County. We share the responsibility of our commitment with approximately 160 precinct election officials. Serving as a precinct election official gives you a chance to give back to your community, meet other people from Meigs County, and preserve the democratic process. Local businesses can participate through our Day For Democracy program. High school seniors are encouraged to participate through our Youth At The Booth program.
WHY AM I NEEDED?
Without precinct election officials the election cannot be held. Precinct election officials identify the eligibility of voters, assist voters when necessary, and assure that the election laws of the state are followed.
REQUIREMENTS
You must be:
- A registered voter in Meigs County
- People oriented and enjoy working with the public
- Able to work for an entire election day
- Willing to attend a training session
- At your assigned polling location at 5:30 a.m.
- Assist in preparing the precinct for voting
- Willing to demonstrate voting procedures to voters as needed
- Willing to help close the precinct after 7:30 p.m. when the polls close
- A two-party team led by the voting location manager must pick up supplies at the Board of Elections on the Saturday before the election and return them after the poll close.
PRECINCT ASSIGNMENTS
Voting precincts must be fully staffed for all primary, special, and general elections held in the county. Each precinct is composed of two (2) Democrats and two (2) Republicans. Unaffiliated voters may also serve as precinct election officials as long as both major parties are represented. Precinct election officials are appointed to work by the members of the Board of Elections.
New precinct election officials will be assigned to work a precinct based on availability of an opening and requirements of the open position. If all positions are filled, your name will be put on the Alternate Precinct Election Official list. Alternates are trained officials who are called to serve if a previously assigned official is suddenly unable to work at the assigned election.
COMPENSATION
Precinct election officials are compensated for working Election Day and attending a training session.

Youth at the Booth
High school seniors, age 17 or older and enrolled in one of the county’s high schools, may be eligible to work at the polls if certain criteria are met and with parent/guardian permission. Students who work as precinct election officials or facilitators must attend a training session and receive compensation for both training and working on election day. Students who serve as precinct election officials shall be excused for the absence on election day pursuant to ORC 3501.22(c)(4).
