Become a Precinct Election Official (PEO)
The Summit County Board of Elections is looking for individuals who can spare a day, for their community, to be a PEO for the elections. Become one of the nearly 2000 people who support the election process in 371 precincts, across the county.
Precinct Election Officials provide the support to ensure a lawful and proper election. Agree to run the voting location in a fair and impartial way, according to the laws of the State of Ohio. Together, we can support our communities, neighbors and friends.
WHO can become a PEO?
- A registered voter in Summit County
- 17 years of age and will be 18 years on or before the day of the election
- CAN NOT have a felony or conviction of any election law
- CAN NOT be a Candidate or a family member of a candidate – where you are assigned to work

WHERE would I work?
- We try to place you in a convenient location
- We use schools, libraries, churches and town halls
WHAT does a Precinct Election Official do?
- Conduct the election properly and lawfully
- Attend a three-hour training session.
- Monday Evening Meeting – 6:30 p.m.
- Election day – 5:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. (details will be discussed in training)
- Process voters, issue ballots, and allow the voter access to cast their vote.
- Secure voting supplies and return to the BOE at the close of the evening
HOW do I schedule my training date?
- After you have submitted your application, a card will be sent to you with your training information.
