The Summit County Board of Elections is looking for individuals who can spare a day, help their community, and get paid for working on Election Day as a Poll Worker. Be one of the nearly 2,500 individuals hired to staff the 371 precincts on Election Days.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHY AM I NEEDED?

  • Without Precinct Election Officials elections cannot be held.
  • Precinct Election Officials help to make sure that an election is fair and impartial according to the election laws of the State of Ohio.

AM I ELIGIBLE?

Yes if you are…

  • 17 years of age and a qualified elector.
  • A registered voter in Summit County.
  • Able to read and write the english language.
  • Not convicted of a felony or any election law.
  • Cannot be a candidate or family member of a candidate for the election in which you are working.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO?

  • Attend a paid, two-three hour training session.
  • Report to work at 5:30 a.m. on Election Day and serve until duties are completed after the polls close at 7:30 p.m.
  • The Voting Location Manager must pick up and return election supplies to the Board of Elections or a location designated by the Board.
  • Ensure your polling location is set up properly.
  • Put up election signs.
  • Verify voter eligibility.
  • Process voters.
  • Issues ballots to voters.
  • Other miscellaneous duties.
  • Pack up all supplies after the polls close at 7:30 p.m.

WHERE WILL I WORK?

  • Many buildings such as schools, libraries, churches, and township halls are used as polling locations.
  • Every effort is made to place you at a convenient location whenever possible.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

  • Apply Online
  • Call the Summit County Board of Elections at 330-643-5200 and ask to speak with a Democratic or Republican PEO Coordinator.
  • You may also complete the downloadable application and mail it to the Summit County Board of Elections.
